new day

Hi to anyone readin this.
Sorry I havent written in a few days.
Been quite busy.
The rescue took in some very emaciated puppies and for the last 4 days my sister and I have been trying to save them. But alas one of the two died yesterday at 3pm.
a 10 week old puppy that should of weighed 10-12 pounds was only 3.4 pounds.
And people wonder why I hate people more and more every day and have become so very cynical towards john q public.

The remaining pup is doing great...misses her sister tho.. we tried we really tried to save her but it wasnt ment to be I guess.

The remaining pup is quite animated and funny. Her previous owner must of did a home chop job on tail as there is NO tail whatso ever. Today the pup tried to chase a tail that isnt there, so she compromised and chased her back leg instead. Around and round she went with her mouth latched onto rear leg. It was so funny. If i can figure out how to load a video onto here I will post it.

Well its time for another feeding (have to feed her in little meals many times a day right now to make sure her body dont reject the food.)

See ya again when i get a spare moment.

PBR adoptions

The first step is to look over the dogs\puppies we have

Then next step is filling out an application.

Dogs with letters and numbers are pound dogs. Their adoption fee is $125.00 prepaid to vet of your choice with an approved application. Plus there is a $10.00 micro chipping fee paid to PBR.

Yes micro chipping is required.

All dogs must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption if 6 months old or older. If younger they must be spayed\neutered by 6 months of age.

PBR foster dogs have PBR and then a name after the PBR. Their adoption fee ranges from $185.00 to $235.00. This is paid to PBR. Foster dogs are current on all age appropriate vaccines, spayed\neutered, current on heart worm testing and prevention, fecal check and given a healthy dog check up by a vet and micro chipped.

We also provide the local public transportation to a low cost spay\neuter clinic in Grand Rapids called C-Snip. Some we even help with the cost, in return they must volunteer for us until money is worked off. If they back out of the agreement then the dog becomes ours per a signed contract.

About Pound Buddies Rescue

PBR Started about 7-8 yrs ago.
Our Director Connie K volunteered for VOA , then started her own rescue.
We used to pull dogs from the pound when their time limit was up, bring them into
foster homes. Get their medicals done, then find them homes.

Then in Oct 2004 we took over adoptions at the local animal control as the "city" had made $$ cut backs and was stopping the adoption program there. Which meant that is a dog was not claimed by owners it was gassed to death. By state of Michigan law when a dog is picked up as a stray it only had a short time for a owner to find it. If they come in with no collar they only get 4 business days, with a collar they get 7 business days.

PBR directors went in front of "city" people and offered for our rescue to take over the adoptions, which the "city" agreed to Oct of 2004. Now when a dogs comes in whether a stray or owner surrender (OS) we are working on taking applications, finding rescue for the dogs or pulling them into foster homes. When their time limit is up we then can adopt them out to approved applicants, sending them to other rescues or fostering them in our rescue.

PBR then started to try to sway the city to quit gassing the animals when time limit was up.
We finally got them swayed. a little over a year ago, PBR took over euthanasia of the dogs. It is now done humanely. We don't like doing it but it is so much better than being gassed to death. gassing takes well over a half hour and the dogs suffered very much.
Euthanasia takes seconds.
We cant save them all but we try like hell to.

Life with Pound Buddies Rescue

I started with Pound Buddies Rescue(PBR) in early 2003.
I was only a walker at the local animal control at that time.
I quit volunteering at the pound when the "city" people asked
me to bring them a dog and put it in gassing cage to be gassed to death.
I walked out.

Then a few months later I started fostering 1 dog at a time. My first foster was a
Brittney mix named Zoe. I then acquired a little peek-a-pom (cant go into details on this)
He was barely 5 ounces when I brought him home (he was not part of the rescue)
I had no clue what to do with him. I called Connie (PBR director) and between her and VOA (Voice of Animals) I was taught how to care for this little baby. He was my first bottle baby orphan. I named him Microchip as he wasn't much bigger than one.
Because of him I became more absorbed into rescue life. I had found my calling it seemed.
He is now a bundle of fluff that visits nursing homes and my sons classes at school every once in a while. He is such a good boy and beautiful and well behaved (graduated top of his classes in obedience) he beat out the big dogs he did.

Over that last 4 years with PBR my responsibilities have grown. I am now the foster\adoption coordinator and records keeper of all past adoptions for PBR dogs and pound dogs.
Yes I still foster but not on the scale I used to as I also have to help care for my father-in-law who lives with us as he can not care for himself.

So that is the short version of life with PBR.
