PBR Started about 7-8 yrs ago.
Our Director Connie K volunteered for VOA , then started her own rescue.
We used to pull dogs from the pound when their time limit was up, bring them into
foster homes. Get their medicals done, then find them homes.
Then in Oct 2004 we took over adoptions at the local animal control as the "city" had made $$ cut backs and was stopping the adoption program there. Which meant that is a dog was not claimed by owners it was gassed to death. By state of Michigan law when a dog is picked up as a stray it only had a short time for a owner to find it. If they come in with no collar they only get 4 business days, with a collar they get 7 business days.
PBR directors went in front of "city" people and offered for our rescue to take over the adoptions, which the "city" agreed to Oct of 2004. Now when a dogs comes in whether a stray or owner surrender (OS) we are working on taking applications, finding rescue for the dogs or pulling them into foster homes. When their time limit is up we then can adopt them out to approved applicants, sending them to other rescues or fostering them in our rescue.
PBR then started to try to sway the city to quit gassing the animals when time limit was up.
We finally got them swayed. a little over a year ago, PBR took over euthanasia of the dogs. It is now done humanely. We don't like doing it but it is so much better than being gassed to death. gassing takes well over a half hour and the dogs suffered very much.
Euthanasia takes seconds.
We cant save them all but we try like hell to.
